ABOUT PRIME VIOLIN
Prime Violin is an international violin competition that was established in the fall of 2020 on the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica’s ground. Founded by Kateryna Popovych and Peter Strenáčik, the competition focuses on the presentation of cultural and artistic values, international interpretative confrontation, and the representation of national musical heritage. What sets Prime Violin apart from other international violin competitions is that it is not restricted in age categories, allowing all age groups to participate. It is even possible to compete in a different age group if the expectations and requirements of the jury are met. The competition has seen almost 150 active participants from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Austria, and India. The target group of this project includes young and talented violinists, students of primary art schools, conservatories, universities, as well as professional violinists over the age of 25 from Slovakia and abroad. The artistic performances are evaluated by an expert commission consisting of prominent violin virtuosos and renowned educators from home and abroad.
